Suggest Treatment For Itchy Rashes On The Lower Back And Forearms
Continue moisturizing cream. But not cortisone
Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear. There may be lot of causes of itchy rashes. Some of the most common causes are- 1. Allergic reactions- to either some new products like talcum powder, soap, other personal care products, or some food like eggs, fish, pollen grains and certain plants outside home, animal hair etc. You need to find out for yourself what you are allergic to and better avoid it. It ll subside on its own and no special treatment required. However to reduce itching anti-histaminic tablets like cetrizine or avil can be used.
2. fungal infection- in this case antifungal creams like fluconazole or ketaconazole may have to be used.
3. Shingles (herpes zoster)- it may form painful blisters. Sometimes it will subside on its own in few weeks. If it is severe then antiviral treatment may have to be given.
4. Heat rash or prickly heat- a cool bath may help. You can prevent heat rash by wearing loose, lightweight clothing and avoiding excessive heat and humidity.
5. Drug allergy- if you are allergic to any medications and if it has developed after taking it.
So in any case if its not subsiding in another couple of days with moisturizing cream what you are using then i advice you to consult a dermatologist. However i suggest you not to use cortisone cream at this point of time because cortisone is a steroidal cream. If it is fungal infection, it may subside temporarily, but will flare up and get worse once you stop. So without getting checked by a dermatologist, do not use cortisone and other steroidal creams.
