Suggest Treatment For Jaundice
My mother is 79 years old. Suffering from jaundice since couple of months.
of late she is complaining of loose motions.
Please advise.
Give ORS. Please upload the reports.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. The jaundice could be due to infective viral hepatitis. However, I would need further details of the investigations. Could you please upload the reports for Liver function test (LFT) and any other investigation that has been done? Based on that I would be able to guide you further.
Regarding the loose motions, I would insist you to give her ORS (oral rehydration solution) and plenty of fluids to drink. The lost water and salts need to be supplemented. Unless that is done your mother could become dehydrated and that could complicate the matters.
I would await your response. Let me know if I could help further.
Regards
I have uploaded urine and blood test reports.
For LFT we don't have the facility nearby. Have to take my mother to nearby city and she is weak.
Obstructive jaundice
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the updates. The blood report shows an elevation in the direct or conjugated bilirubin as well as presence of bile salts and bile pigments in the urine. Both of these point towards obstructive jaundice. Such a thing could occur due to gall stones or other causes that obstruct the flow of bile. I would therefore insist you to get an abdominal ultrasound done in case of your mother. Upload the reports thereafter and I would guide you accordingly.
