Question: Hi, I take a thyroid pill each a.m. (Levothyroxine 50mcg tab.). I still have all these systomes of no energy sometimes, insomnia, terrible joint pain, back pain all over, & even though I have lost down from a size 22 W to a size 16 & still losing some, I am depressed all the time & emotions are up & down. My Dr. Keeps on prescribing pain pills & muscle relaxers, & Celebrex. BC I have acid reflux & hienal hernia, I have been on Nexium for 3 or 4 yrs. and I know this is not good to be on it that long. Been trying to go more with an holistic type of meds & paleo diet. Take 250 mg. of Venlafaxine Hal Er tabs. in a.m., too. I have cut out most most pain meds & muscle relaxers & sleep meds. Sometimes I stay awake for 48 hrs. Unable to sleep. Then will crash for for 2 days. What is wrong with me? I don't trust my Dr. Anymore & looking for new one. Going to Dr. Chiropractor for back problem. He found a broken collarbone that had repaired it self, crooked btw, & very curve in my neck. I have only had 2 treatments so far. I received this break from a fall in 2015. And my Dr. Never addressed the pain in my shoulder area, just my torn minus in Rt. knee. What do y'all recommend I do about all these things that are wrong w/me. I don't want to live on pain meds & sleep aids all the time. I also have Parityroid problems & the took out one lobe, therefore I have too much calcium in my blood & cant even take vitamins w/cal. & limit my dairy food. Got any help for this 69 yr. old who is forgetful & even forgets to take some of her regular meds. some days? Thanks for reading all this, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
High calcium level seem responsible for the symptoms:

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
I have gone carefully through your concern!

The symptoms you reported correspond typically with high calcium levels;
Fatigue, depression, osteoporosis, fractures, joint pain, insomnia ect.
So, there should be another parathyroid gland responsible for overproduction of parathormone and calcium levels and in these cases a re-intervention is suggested.
Of course it should be confirmed before by checking:
-PTH
-Calcium level
-Phosphate and magnesium
-VitD
-Urinary calcium

It happens often that there are more than one parathyroid glands enlarged and the surgeon removes only one of them. If another gland is confirmed to be enlarged you should discuss with your endocrinologist about the alternatives of treatment.
Hope the information will help.

Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
