Hello
Welcome to Health care magic
I reviewed the history, it seems you have underwent penetrating keratoplasty in right eye 5 years back for keratoconus. I advice you to undergo treatment for keratoconus in the left eye to prevent progression and complications which may need keratoplasty as the treatment in the left eye also.
Keratoconus is a corneal disease characterized by progressive thinning and conical protrusion of the cornea. The treatment in the earlier stages is by corneal collagen crosslinking, intra corneal ring segment implantation (INTACS) and latest one Keraflex (KXL)
In later stages the only option will be keratoplasty.
As you want to know about KXL, I will describe it as below. KXL stands for Keraflex. Keraflex is the latest treatment option of keratoconus.
Keraflex employs microwave energy to shrink the collagen of the cornea and is a type of thermokeratoplasty. It causes flattening of the cornea by causing shrinkage of the collagen of cornea and is useful to reverse the protrusion of the cornea occurring in keratoconus.
It is usually combined with the corneal collagen cross linking to provide better and stable results.
Corneal collagen cross linking is one of the proven treatments and has been used in the treatment of keratoconus to arrest the progression of keratoconus.
The new treatment of KXL is very effective when combined with the corneal collagen cross linking.
KXL is one of the latest procedure for treatment of keratoconus and it has provided promising results in treatment of keratoconus.
Hence I advice you to consult your ophthalmologist to undergo evaluation to know the present status of keratoconus in left eye and treatment accordingly.
Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you.
