Suggest Treatment For Kidney Failure With Extreme Dehydration
Question: Dr. _Salazar answered a query about my 83 y.o. brother on the 27th. He had TWO pacemaker implants followed by 75% kidney failure. My brother has not eaten since, is extremely dehydrated and has been moved to hospital today with I>V> fluids started. He is lethargic and miserable. What to expect next and will dialysis be beneficial ?
His cardiologist explained to him that the first pacemaker was " too powerful" and needed to be replaced. I don't understand that, do you ?

Dialysis would help with removing waste materials as well as maintaining he normal body fluids. This will only be a temporary measure as only a kidney transplant is the definite solution to a kidney failure. his doctors would evaluate hi for the benefits of this given his overall health and communicate their recommendations to you. You can also ask them if they think kidney transplant is an option for him.
I do not understand what the cardiologist meant by " the other pacemaker was too strong for him". Probably he was trying to put it in a patient friendly term buy has lost its exact meaning to other medics. Please, kindly ask him what he meant by that just for clarification purposes. Am curious to know what he could have meant by that as well.
In all, he would improve after rehydration. Dialysis would offer temporary relief if he qualifies for but kidney transplant is the only definite solution.
