Hi,
Omnacortil 20 mg contains
prednisolone which belongs to the group of medications known as
corticosteroids is used to treat wide variety of medical conditions like allergic reactions, asthma, rheumatic disorders, skin and eye disorders.
Defcort 12 mg contains
deflazacort which belongs to the group of medications known as corticosteroids is used to treat various diseases and conditions like allergic reactions, asthma, cancer, rheumatic disorders, eye and skin disorders. Normally we use prednisolone like Omnacortil, which is a steroid, in
kidney transplant cases.
A dose of 20 mg is quite rational. There is no advantage in replacing one tried or tested steroid with other another steroid. Moreover, deflazacort like Defcort is not in vogue for kidney transplant patients. One should alter medicines when clearly clinically required. In short, the current dose of prima facie appears to be quite rational. It is absolutely essential to ensure that transplant doesn't get rejected. As your doctor has advised to do, so you should follow his direction. If the side effects of steroid persist for long or bother you again despite taking Defcort, then you should consult your doctor promptly for
medical help. Don't stop taking this medication abruptly without your doctor's permission.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician
