Suggest Treatment For Laryngitis And Tender Lymph Nodes In The Neck

default
Posted on Thu, 17 Aug 2017
Question: I have had laryngitis since July 6. It started with a cough; the doctor prescribed codeine syrup which I took for 4 nights and that helped. I don't have the all-night-cough anymore but my voice is still very hoarse despite vocal rest, and there is post-nasal drip at night, left side, lymph glands in neck still tender. My tongue is also sore, but that may be from too much hot tea as I try to help my voice. I was prescribed azithromycin on day 10 but I broke out in hives after the first does and discontinued at doctor's instruction. I started on OTC guaifenesin 400 mg every 4 hours yesterday and that seems to help a little, but I need my voice back; I'm a teacher. Thanks so much.

Brief Answer:
Laryngitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to healthcare magic and thanks for putting up the query.
Hoarseness of voice can be due to just vocal cord infection or vocal cord pathology like aa polyp or nodule. A vocal pathology is very common with voice abuse esp in teachers and singers etc.
You should get aan endoscopic examination of the larynx done. Take a combination of levocetrizine and phenylepherine twice daily and regular steam inhalation. Take a complete voice rest. Use xylometazoline nasal drops three times a day.
The endoscopic examination will dtermine if there is any vocal cord pathology and further treatment will depend on the results.
Follow up with the reports.
All the medicines i prescribed you will be available only on prescription.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Thanks and regards
