She will throw things and refuse to do her homework. He mother and her will get into arguments and she will tip over chairs. She uses foul language and the teacher has talked to us about her behavior in class. She is in the 6th grade and doing 1st to 2nd grade work.

Brief Answer:
she needs consultation from child psychiatrist

Detailed Answer:
hi, thanks for writing

I have understood your concerns, it is definitely very distressing for a caregiver or parents of such a child.

Her IQ comes in borderline range and she is having learning disorder specifically in reading and written expression. Learning disorder in a child is mostly associated with some kind of behavioral abnormality like opositional defiant disorder [ODD], ADHD, conduct disorder.

She might have one of these, i feel this can be ODD. There are problems in dealing with this kind of child.

She needs attention and therapy from both psychiatrst and psychologist.
Consult a psychiatrist so that she can be managed by drugs
Consult a psychologist who can help dealing with her behavior and also in how to improve her Intelligence related to learning disorder.there specific programs related learning difficulty.

She is receiving divalproex 250 mg twice a day. That is good dose, she can be given upto 750 mg in a day. If behavior is violent [harming self and others] then she can be given antipsychotic drugs.

All these you should discuss with your child psychiatrist and treat her accordingly. I hope this will be helpful to you. best of luck
