Question: What causes watery stool? I have had it for two days after being terribly constipated. I have IBS. I am 73 years old and disabled in a power chair.

Brief Answer:
It could be Infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Greetings from Dr Divakara P
Thanks for posting your query.

Loose motions can be due to infection due to virus or bacteria or due to indigestion or malabsorption.

Most of the times it is due to viral infection and most viral infection will subside in 2-3 days. So kindly make sure you hydrate yourself well by drinking plenty of water or ORS fluids or fruit juices.

If loose motions persists even for more than 3 days then you may need to get tested with Stool routine test and you may require Antibiotic course for the cure.

Also kindly let me know if you are on any medicine for IBS or for constipation.

Regards.
