Question : How do I restore my tastebuds? I used a 3% peroxide to cure a sore throat and left it in my mouth too long. As a result the top inside of my lip has a slight rash. I feel that this is the problem.My throat is still sore and has been for about three weeks.

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. The slight rash and alteration in taste due to the use of 3% peroxide will be due to irritation of the lining of the tongue and inflammation of the taste buds.

2. This will be temporary and should heal in a few days time.

3. Discontinue any further use of the peroxide. Get your throat examined by an ENT Specialist.

4. Since the throat has been sore for three weeks, a throat swab followed by a course of antibiotics, anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory medication and a mild OTC antiseptic oral rinse (such as dilute Betadine or Chlorhexidine) will help speed up recovery.
