Suggest Treatment For Low BP, Severe Chills, Numbness In Hands And Feet

Question: Hi I spoke with a Doctor on Friday night regarding my symptoms (HA that worsens with postural changes, temp between 101.7-103.7, severe chills almost similar to rigors, and finger, hand and feet numbness, last BP was 82/40 ( my normal is 90s/60s). No other symptoms at all. This was all sudden onset Friday. At first I wasn't too concerned, but I'm really worried now. Don't want to talk to my mom bc my Dad passed 2 weeks ago. I am an RN that's the main reason I'm worried. I don't see much correlation. Thank you, XXXX

It is wonderful that you are a registered nurse, it makes it easier for us to explain things.

1. The postural dizziness, numbness of feet and hands are related to the fall in blood pressure, which could be due to the infection itself. Low blood pressure re routes blood from hands, skin and peripheries to more vital organs like heart and kidneys. This causes dizziness, numbness, etc.
2. The temperature recorded is indicative of a bacterial infection, the most common bacterial infection associated with fever, chills and rigor is a urinary tract infection. Please get a urine routine done immediately. It could be that you are not drinking enough water after your dad passed away causing the UTI
3. To take care of the giddiness I recommend that you elevate your leg end, this ensures better supply to the brain
4. Please approach a general hospital soon. Tab Tylenol three times a day should take care of your fever. I recommend starting antibiotics like oral cefixime as well.
