Suggest Treatment For Low BP With Fainting Spells, Cold Extremities And Blurred Vision
Question: I am 82, male, over 6 feet tall, weigh 140 pounds and have low blood pressure , typically 100/50 - 115/70. I seldom have salt and have dysphagia. I have recently had fainting spells and blurred vision and have had very cold hands and body especially in lower back for years. What can be done to help me?
Brief Answer:
a review of medications
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
although your blood pressure is not very low, your symptoms can be suggestive of impaired peripheral blood flow, although not as bad to cause serious problems. If the symptoms are very unpleasant then you should discuss with your doctor about terazosin. Terazosin may lower the blood pressure and cause similar problems. You could try some time off terazosin (just a few days) to see what happens.
If the symptoms cannot be attributed to the drug then some testing would be required to identify other potential causes.
You can contact me again, if you'd like any clarification or further information.
Kind Regards!

Brief Answer:
salt raises the blood pressure
Detailed Answer:
Increased salt consumption raises the blood pressure but I couldn't advise you about how much is enough. I can't also guaranty it will work with you. Some patients are salt-sensitive, others aren't. Perhaps you can discuss alternative treatments with your doctor regarding terazosin. You can try an alternative and return to terazosin whenever you want...
