Suggest Treatment For Low Haemoglobin Level
Question: My son is 50 years old. He has had surgical interventions due to accident that left him with a remnant rather than a stomach. He has very little intestine. Due to this he is chronically anemic. His hemoglobin level has been under 9 for more than a year. He is not a cardiac surgery patient. nor does he have cancer or leukemia. Four months ago his hemoglobin was 7.2; 2 weeks later it was 5.9 One of his doctors wanted to give him regular transfusions. Or at least a transfusion. The other doctors voted no. One month later his hemoglobin was still 5.9. Again he was refused transfusion. He does not have aids, cancer, leukemia etc. This week his hemoglobin is 6.2 because we doubled up on the daily vitamin plus iron. He collapsed this afternoon and is sleeping because the doctors still refuse to think he needs intervention with iron bolus or transfusion. I am sure there must be some long term perhaps fatal damage going on in his body because of the long term untreated extremely low hemoglobin blood level. How can we get his doctors to treat him and give him a transfusion?
Brief Answer:
vitamin B12 injection
Detailed Answer:
Hi
If low haemoglobin is left Left untreated it can severe fatigue.
It cam also cause heart problems.
Anemia can lead to a rapid or irregular heartbeat called arrhythmia which can lead to congestive heart failure.
As his digestive system has trouble absorbing vitamin B 12 from the food he may need to receive vitamin B-12 injections to keep his haemoglobin at least to 8 gm/dl otherwise it may cause complication.
