Question: i recently had a blood test done and showed my total iron at 34 and my ferritin level at 134. Do i need an iron supplement? I have chills and dry mouth sometimes. No iron in bowels or urine. Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Needs iron supplements likely

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Your ferritin levels are normal but your iron levels are reduced. Normal values are from 65 to 176 microgram per deciliter. We need to find out transferrin levels too before deciding whether you need iron supplements or not. Usually transferrin proteins bind more than normal iron and that leads to iron deficiency in serum.

How ever there is no harm in taking iron supplements at your age. Keep taking iron polymaltose or any other form of iron along with other vitamin supplements and you will be fine.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
