Suggest Treatment For Lower Back Pain And Muscle Relaxant

default
Posted on Thu, 27 Oct 2016
Question: My mother is 59 yrs old. She is suffering from lower left back pain since 16 days. Doctor gave muscle relaxant and antacid for 3 says and asked us to do Ultrasound, CBC and CUE. Reports are normal. However the pain has not subsided completely. She is not able to bend or sit dow or even stand for sometime. She feels better if she lie down in a specific position. When she tries to turn, if she turns by lifting the buttocks, it is ok for her.

Consulted an Orthopaedic doctor as well. Attached are the prescription from general as well as Orthopaedic doctor.
On having the tablets prescribed, she is getting lower abdomen pain. And even back pain is not subsiding completely. There is no pain in legs. No problem with urination or motion.

Earlier (15 yrs before) she fell down which made her sit down on her buttocks with a big jerk. This had an impact on her disc. Since then she used to get these pains on and off. However it was not this severe or this long.

What could be the cause? Is there anything to worry about?

Brief Answer:
Need MRI spine for further evaluation of particle slip disc

Detailed Answer:
Hello there.

Thanks for the query. I've reviewed the attachments.

It is better to get MRI lumbosacral spine done to look for disc prolapse that may be causing the problem.

It is best to turn to the side and get up from bed. Avoid bending forwards or lifting weights.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Thanks and regards.

Thank you for your response doctor. Is it a medical emergency to get the Test done or can it wait for the course completion / physiotherapy? We have another week to complete the course.
