Suggest Treatment For Lower Back Pain When Diagnosed With Ovarian Cyst

default
Posted on Thu, 27 Aug 2015
Question: side pain, lower back pain.

Dignosis after UltraSound - ovarian cyst on left ovary -8cm. Doctor suggested removal, with a concern that if it sticks to the ovary, one ovary may be removed if absolutely necessary.
1) Do you know any alternative other than removing through surgery?
2) if I end up doing surgery, what is the chance that it affects fertility?

Brief Answer:
Laparoscopic surgery is the best option for you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

This is a large ovarian cyst . If it was 5 cm or less you could have waited for spontaneous resolution. The pain you are having is either because the ovary with large cyst is pressing on the nerves or because it is partially getting twisted. I suggest that you should go ahead with laparoscopic ( key hole surgery) removal of the cyst. There is no alternative treatment in your case. Occasionally this ovary can completely get twisted, If that happens the whole ovary will have to be removed. So it is better for you to have elective surgery for removal of the cyst.

laparoscopic surgery is very safe. It causes least adhesions if at all. It is unlikely to affect your future fertility.

I hope this helps. If you have further concerns, do write to me.

Thank you Dr. Ramadevi. I was just about to ask you if you were in my area, but I see you are in the middle east.

So, you do not think the birth control pills will help reduce the size?
