Suggest Treatment For Lower Back Pain
(Some of his history below)
In November 2010 he had one of his testicles removed, December 2010 was told that the testicular that was removed was testicular cancer but they were certain they removed it all during surgery ( they checked with CT scans and checked Tumor markers which all went back to normal. His options where watchful waiting and Chemo. He started Chemo XXXXXXX 2011 and finished and all test once again showed everything was great. All tumor markers were normal and CT scans were good. After this for the first 2 years he did a CT scan ever 6 months and blood work ever 2 months. After 2 years and currently he does blood work every 4 to 6 months and a CT scan once a year. Everything is great. All scans and blood test show normal. He also developed a bad stomach over a year ago and found out he has a hernia which is pretty small and he just needs to watch what he eats and he takes Pariet regularly for this which helps.
Back to his current pain. He has lower pack pain and also feels this pain though his leg at times and his left shoulder. He has no lumps or anything on his back/ shoulder or leg. All X-rays as come back good and all his blood work. Yesterday he was to emerge again and they did a urine test and blood work which again came back ok.They have mentioned different things causing this some being Herniated Disc/ a form of arthritis starting/ scatic pain. He has a bone scan tomorrow to see if they can find something seeming everything else (blood work, x-rays) are coming back fine. He currently has seen a chiropractor which do and did seem to help some at the time. He is currently taking Tramacet for the pain and he has took toradol.
The doctor he saw yesterday recommended physitherpy for Scatic pain and trapezius pain and massage (L) shoulder. He has lost no weight, his urine is fine and bowl movement are normal, the hardest he finds are after sitting and then standing or moving certain ways. He can walk and do things. The mornings at times he is also stiff. What do you believe the issue maybe with your medical opinion.
You are likely to be having disc prolapse/ degeneration.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query
I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Your husband is likely to be having lumbar disc prolapse/ degeneration with sciatica. It can be confirmed by MRI of lumbar spine. Its treatment is rest and analgesic such as ibuprofen for relief. Mecobalamin can be of help in sciatica( neuralgic pain). His bone scan is done probably to exclude malignancy. Hopefully it will be normal.
His left shoulder pain is likely to be frozen/ freezing shoulder. It requires analgesic such as ibuprofen and physiotherapy. Second possibility is muscular pain requireing rest and analgesic. You can discuss with your doctor about it.
Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.
Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
They also told him don't lay down much and keep active without straining himself such as lifting etc. But continue walking and doing things for his muscles.
( after talking to him) At first he would take advil and or aleve and this did help it. He has never stopped working during all this time so far. He recently (this week) took a week off to see a doctor and try and get to the bottom of everything. He also has been out most of the day and is feeling pretty good. When he gets this pain he also can sometimes feel it in his hip as well.
Bone scan can detect infection and fractures besides malignancy..
