Suggest Treatment For Lower Left Back Pain

default
Posted on Fri, 13 Mar 2015
Question: I have had lower left back pain for several years. I had a left hip replaced in 2013 then seven months
later i had to have it replaced/ revision. Subsequent to that I had some other health issues with my prostate and kidney stones. My back has gotten worse with severe pain sometimes debilitating, with pain going down my my left hip, down the front of my leg to my knee. I have tried physical therapy. shots in the spine etc. I am being told I have a cyst on my spine at the L-4 level which has narrowed the space putting pressure on the nerve which is causing the sever pain and getting worse. Two surgeons
suggest surgery to remove the cyst and some bone. What do you think? The surgeon saus hes is 85 to
90% sure that is my problem because he does not see any other spine issues other than arthrites issues. the hip surgeon says the hip is perfect.

Brief Answer:
Cyst may be cause of severe pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic for posting your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar.

I have gone through your question in detail and understand your concern. If MRI show pressure over nerves then removal of cyst will relieve pressure and relieve severe pain. I will definitely agree with your doctor's decision to operate and relieve pressure. Till then analgesic such as ibuprofen can be taken for pain. If pain is severe and not relieved by ibuprofen then strong analgesic such as tramadol can be taken. Rest is helpful. Neurotropic agents such as Mecobalamine are helpful in neuralgic pain.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

Wishing you a good health
Take care.
