![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hi .. Ive just noticed this morning that My husband XXXX (59) has a hard sinewy lump on the calf muscle of his left leg .. .. It feels bumpy and hot ... He said he has no pain in it and not to worry because its a build up of veins problem and not another dvt ,, He has had his veins stripped and had surgery on them about 15 years ago ... He is aready on warfarin because of the two deep vein thrombosis he has had ..One when he was in his thirties , the last one was earlier this year ... He has been told he will need to be on warrfarin for life because tests showed he had a very small hole in his heart that made him subsceptible to getting these dvts ... I don't want to take any chances with this .... We have an inr machine and checked his blood levels 2 days ago and he was 2.1 which is pretty much where the doctor said he should be ... I am a bit concerned because of his history .... and he wont go to the doctor today because he knows on a sunday he will be kept waiting for hours to see someone .... can a dvt give you a sinewy lump and no pain or is it possible its a vein problem ,,, Waiting for you response XXXXXXX
Brief Answer:
DVT is not likely.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
A sinewy lump with no pain is not likely to be due to DVT. In DVT pain along with a generalized swelling is a more common symptom. The pain usually increases on walking.
The swelling that you have described seems to be a venous swelling. Since his INR is also normal. You can wait till Monday to see a specialist if the swelling persists.
I hope this answers your query.

What is the usual treatment for a venous swelling ..... and is it serious ?
Brief Answer:
Nothing serious.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
A venous swelling can be taken care of with compression bandage or stocking. The removal of vein may be needed if the valves are incompetent. The exact line of treatment depends on the diagnosis.
Hope my answer is helpful.
