Suggest Treatment For Lump On The Throat

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Apr 2015
Question: My ent says that the lump in my throat is acid reflux, but I have been on medication and diet for 7 months and still have the lump. The lump feels like mucous or sinus drainage, but none of it coughs up. What should I try? I have also had allergy testing and showed a lot of environmental allergies, but no particular food allergies.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be sinusitis.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having lump in throat. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any nasal obstruction or post nasal drip (sinus secretions trickle back into throat) ?
Is your lump in throat associated with change of voice ?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

Based on your clinical details, it appears to be sinusitis with post nasal drip or voice box abnormalities (acid laryngitis).

I suggest you to follow these measures to overcome your lumpy issues.

1. CT scan of para nasal sinuses ( to see anatomical blockage and pathological extent), laryngoscopy (to see deeper parts of throat and voice box).

2. Continue prophylactic anti allergic medications like tab. ebast-m (ebastine + montelukast) daily one tab at bed time (best works for environmental and food allergies).

3. steam inhalations- helps in clearing the sinus secretions and improves patency of sinus openings.

4. general measures- weight reduction(if you are obese), avoid spicy , junk foods, keep 3 hours interval between dinner and sleep, take 6 small meals, instead of large 3, sleep in head elevated position(by supporting extra pillows to prevent regurgitation of partially digested food). regular walk.

You need to discuss about these investigations and medications, as they are prescribed medications, need to be taken under medical supervision.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
