Suggest Treatment For Mass On Side Of Arm When On Treatment For Breast Cancer

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Feb 2015
Question: I am a breast cancer survivor with lymphedema in the right arm. I've developed a mass on the right side under the arm close to the waist. My oncologist says it's more lymphedema but it's in a place where compression won't work and I should just forget it. My question is do you think she's correct or should I get another opinion?

Brief Answer:
discuss with your doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hey thanks for your faith in the health care Magic
I have gone through your question and I understood your problem.
Following are few treatment options for treating lymphedema

Decongestive Lymphedema Therapy
1. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD): is a unique, therapeutic method of stimulating the movement of fluids in the tissues. The gentle, rhythmic, pumping, massage movements follow the direction of lymph flow and produce rapid results.
2. Comprehensive Decongestive Therapy (CDT) is used primarily in the treatment of lymphedema and venous insufficiency edema. It is a combination of MLD, bandaging exercises and skin care. CDT may also involve breathing exercises, compressive garments and dietary measures.

Compression Pump Therapy

Surgical Treatment
Today experiments in microsurgery are being tried throughout the world. These surgeries include placements of shunts in hope of creating new pathways for lymphatic flow.

Other types of Treatments

Liposuction
Laser treatment
Acupuncture
use of diuretics
so I will suggest you to consult with your doctor regarding the above treatment modalities.perhaps he is of the opinion that the lymphedema isnt of severe grade so is giving you a conservative approach.

I hope my answer was helpful for you . Dont forget to close the discussion.Thank you.
