Suggest Treatment For Metastatic Stomach Cancer
Question: My grandmother is 68 years old. She felt fatigue and pain in her abdomen area and also a cold infection. She lives in a remote hilly area and so she went to a local doctor who prescribed her otc analgesics, cough syrups and multi-vitamins. After her condition did not improve for around 3 months , my grandfather informed me and we went to a hospital. In her blood test her hb and mcv levels were found to be low and alk. phosphate levels high. Futher tests like endoscopy and CT scan showed lesions in her liver and ulcer in her stomach. After a liver biopsy she was diagnosed with stomach cancer that had metastasized to the liver though had not spreas anywhere else. They have advised to start chemotherapy in 3 days follwed by radiation. I am attaching her test reports. Could you please sir tell me about the prognosis and what are the best available treatments available in such cases? Also please give a second opinion on the diagnosis .
Thank you.
Thank you.
Brief Answer:
Hello dear. Chemotherapy is the only treatment for her.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear.
Welcome to HCM.
It is sad to know that she is suffering from cancer. I appreciate your concern for her.
From the details it is clear that she is suffering from advanced stage of stomach cancer.
At this stage the only treatment option left is chemotherapy. There are different types of chemo drugs and they are chosen on the basis of physical condition of the patient.
Radiotherapy can be given for pain control if the tumor has spread to bones.
The prognosis is actually not very good in such an advanced case.
Patients usually live for an year or so with chemotherapy.
Please attach the reports.
Feel free to ask further.
Thanks and regards
