Gilbert Syndrome, Done Liver Biopsy. Is Disease Preventing The Body From Processing Drugs?

My 20 year old son has presented for Gilbert Syndrome for ten years. I had a liver biopsy and have it. He had to do drug and alcohol testing for a coming court case and the tests seem to be high. He shows pot after more than 40 days as if he smoke today and blew a .33 after being an idiot and drinking at a party. Could it be Gilbert Syndrome is keeping his body from processing the illegal substances?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Gilbert Syndrome does not affect the processing of most of the substances as well as foods, as no particular abnormality is present except for the absence of an enzyme required for conversion and finally excretion of bilirubin from the body resulting an increase in levels of non-conjugated bilirubin. Therefore you cannot take a plea in your favor by showing that your son has gilbert syndrome. He will be proved guilty equally, if found to have illegal substances in his body system.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
