Suggest Treatment For Migraines And Severe Acne
Question: My daughter is 26 years old she has previously been on the contraceptive pill. She suffered from Migraine. She has now been off the pill for two years she no longer gets migraine but suffers from really bad acne which has coincided with stopping the pill. She is very slim does not drink too much alcohol and does not smoke. Her skin is making her very depressed. We have heard of new pills out which could help her can she take the pill when she has suffered from migraine.
Brief Answer:
Not to take pills again
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I understand your concerns about pills and migraine.
Migraine, headache are known side effects of pills. I suggest let her not take pills again as she is likely to get migraine headache again with pills.
She has earlier tried low dose pills like XXXXXXX , which means no newer pills are safe for her.
For her pimples on the face there are newer medicines available in the market ( like isotretinoin). Let her seek opinion from dermatologist and start these medicines.
Let me know if you need any more clarifications.

Her GP will not refer her to dermatologist before trying vitamin A cream which has very bad side effects. Ironically they put her on cerazette which has created even more skin issues with acne it is not just pimples. She must also be on the coil before cream. I think this is lazy and not thought through by the GP.
Also the drug you have mentioned is linked to suicide. Thanks for advice

Brief Answer:
She needs different drugs
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Unfortunately her GP has prescribed her cerazette which according to me was not the right choice. Infact she does not need any birth control pills.
Isotrenoin is known to help women like your daughter. But it's a prescription drug as it has side effects. It's association with suicide is an overstatement - there are no strong supportive evidence with suicide and this drug. Don't worry. I think she needs to see a dermatologist sooner. Request your GP for the same.
Let me know if I can help you with any other doubts.
