Suggest Treatment For Mild Arrhythmia In An Elderly Person
Question: I was referred to a cardiologist by my G.P. in 1995 after a slight arrhythmia was detected in a regular E.C.G. as part of my annual physical mandated by the terms of my employment. The cardiologist's diagnosis was that I had a mildly irregular heartbeat for which he prescribed various medications in an attempt to regulate it. After a few months of experimenting, I had a "stroke" and was thoroughly flushed with heprin (while in hospital recovery),he ultimately concluded that the arrhythmia is part of my
physiology and prescribed ongoing "maintenance dosages" of digoxin and warfarin which have continued to this date. I am now 77 and still have the "mild" arrhythmia, which is consistent in my E.K.G. profile, and has never been an issue since my stroke 18 years ago. My G.P. consistently tells me not to worry about it but, I guess I will always wonder if it should be a concern?

Brief Answer:
Not a cause for concern. Your GP is right about it.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. Let me mention that some amount of irregularity in heart rate (mild arrythmia) can be present in many individuals and is not really a cause of concern. Let me also state that overdoing things also creates problems and probably you are getting unnecessarily overstressed about this issue. Stay relaxed. Continue the ongoing medicines.
