Suggest Treatment For Minor Defect In Semicircular Canals Located In Inner Ear
Question: hi i'm 63 y/o female.. i have ear pain and pressure in right ear. no ear drainage or redness and swelling around ear. I have sever vertigo like symptoms when laying flat and turn head. also when sitting up, if i lean over and hang my head down it's really is bad. i have bad tooth that doesn.t hurt anymore. i have no fever or nausea. just a little pain pressure in right ear. when i was a child, i had bad ear infections all the time. they thought i was going to go deaf. before the time of tubes. but earaches stopped at 10years old. i had a few twinges in my ear through the years but thats it. 20 years ago i was diagnosed with occipital nueralgia and fibromyalgia for dizziness, dropping things, ect. no m.s ect .

I have noted your symptoms and they are suggestive of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).
In this condition, there is a minor defect in semicircular canals located in inner ear (crystals are formed, where normally only fluid is present).
Symptoms are vertigo/dizziness, which are made worse on head or neck movements. In the initial period, nausea, vomiting or imbalance may also be present.
It is a self limiting condition and improves on own in most people within 1-2 weeks.
For relief of symptoms, you may take betahistine tablets. An opinion from ENT may be needed, if symptoms persist.
