Brief Answer:
Cognitive behavioral therapy should help

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on Health care magic.

I have gone through your query and understand his condition. My suggestion is rather simple. He needs to visit a psychologist for psychotherapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a form of psychotherapy that should help him. Based on the response to treatment the psychologist would tell you if psychiatric consultation and medication is likely to be needed.

XXXXXXX has had CBT many times without success. Most therapists in our home area are not familiar with selective sound sensitivity disorders as Misophonia. I know that there is no cure but any coping skills will be good, he is a smart young man and is very aware of his problem. He desperately wants go back to college and be with people again. If you can give us the best medical type of practice, or the type of help he needs I will do my best effort to find someone or a clinic to help XXXXXXX
With great respect, XXXXXXX XXXX

Brief Answer:
Individual skills vary

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

I understand. The quality of output definitely depends upon the expertise of the therapist. The therapist needs to be able to view things from his point of view. There is a condition called learned helplessness that needs to be taught the patient. Unfortunately the range of variation of personal skills is wide and it is really hard to predict who can actually deliver the output.

The entire output depends on empowering the patient. That XXXXXXX is willing to cooperate is an additional benefit. Mere medical treatment is unlikely to be adequate but nevertheless he needs a psychiatric evaluation. It is only based off such evaluations that psychiatric medicines can be given. Besides, all of them are prescription medications and need to know written down by the doctor.

I hope you understand.
