Question: I have recently done with cholesterol check and attached are the reports. I would like to know, what should be my next course of action? What should my diet consists of? I'm suffering from lot of fatigue and joint pain for past 6 months. 3 Months ago in December, was diagnosed with Vitamin B12 and D deficient and I'm undergoing their treatment as well. Below is my medical history and my LIPID reports are attached. I want to understand my lipid report and what values are in higher range and how to tackle it. ----------------------------------------- Sebodermatitis - Chronic Dandruff Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D deficiency. (Diagnosed in December) Took B12 injections for 6 days, then one each week for 6 weeks and I'm on one each month for 6 months. Along with the injections, Nervy Plus daily one tablet for 3 months and Calciferol Granules sachets one each week for 10 weeks( sachets are done now). -----------------------------------------

Brief Answer: Suggested precuations + treatment are given below Detailed Answer: Hi XXXXXXX Thanks for your query. I have carefully gone through your Lipid report, which suggests mixed dyslipidemia (increased levels of Cholesterol, Triglycerides and LDL- all of which are harmful to the body). The possible causes are heredity, obesity or abnormal lifestyle. Other causes, such as, diabetes and under-active thyroid, have been excluded- as evident from the attached reports. However, you should get your sugar and Thyroid hormone tests done at regular intervals. A LOW FAT diet; weight reduction to the desired level of BMI of less than 25 (if applicable); regular blood pressure check up, regular physical exercises for at least one hour daily; and, AVOIDANCE of fatty foods, junk/fast foods, confectionary, refined sugars, sweets, aerated/drinks, alcohol, non-veg products (particularly red meat) will help in bring down the different components of cholesterol. It would be an ideal proposition to consult a dietician who will formulate a specific diet-chart for high Lipid levels. However, I would recommend that you take Statins (such as, Rosuvastatin 5mg + Fenofibrate 160mg) daily at bedtime, along with the precautions mentioned above, till such time the levels return to desirable range. Hope I have addressed your concerns to your complete satisfaction and you find my response helpful and informative. I will be happy to answer further queries, if any. Take care, Col (Dr.) Rakesh Karanwal
