Posted on Sat, 1 Aug 2015
Question: I have a mosquito allergy that has been increasing in severity. The newest development happened this weekend when I went camping and the back of my leg, where approx 5-7 bites occurred is now covered by numerous round purple bruises. Should I be concerned?

Brief Answer:
It should be evaluated by blood tests

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have read your query and I understand your concern. The mosquito bite allergy may last for 2-3 weeks if not treated. But you report that bruise is increasing and spreading. I am a bit concerned with this development and I would like you to be evaluated properly. The bruises may be the part of mosquito allergy or may indicate some underlying illness - the most common reasons for bruises are platelet deficiency or platelet dysfunction. Other common reasons are clotting factors deficiency or dysfunction.

I will advise you to get following investigations done :
1 )Complete hemogram
2) Bleeding time and clotting time
3) PT/ INR

It would rule out underlying bleeding disorder.
You should visit your doctor so that he can examine you and order tests for you.
You can share my opinion with him.
I hope it helps. Take care.
