Suggest Treatment For Multiple Fibroids
Question: I have been bouncing back and forth between my gynecologist and internist for over a year regarding the pain I have been having. One thought it was my colon the other fibroids. I think they are both right. They have figured out that I have several fibroids (uterine) & through a colonoscopy they discovered that I have diverticulitis (?) & a twisted colon that they "untwisted). The doctor recommended that I take a laxative 3-4x/day (really). I have changed my diet. That's not working, my pain is still there (back & like menstrual cramps & leg pain) I am a very healthy 56 year old woman. I just took the RealAge.com test & my "real age" is 53. 4 & I turned 57 in a week. I see the doctor this a.m. What should I ask? I think they need to remove the fibroids with the least invasive procedure possible & do a test to see what is going on with my colon.

Brief Answer:
It's better to go for Hysterectomy.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
As there are multiple fibroids, it's better to undergo complete removal of Uterus (Hysterectomy ). As it is difficult to remove each and every fibroid, hysterectomy is preferred. Chances of recurrence of Fibroid at different sites in the Uterus is a possibility if the uterus is left.
Regarding colon,Colonoscopy is the best test for exact diagnosis. If Diverticulitis is present, it should be treated accordingly. I would discuss these aspect with the doctor.
Hope I answered your query.
Wish you good health.
