Suggest Treatment For Muscle Pain And Weakness

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Jul 2015
Question: I am experiencing extreme muscle pain and weakness which occurs when doing the simplest things such as walking across the room. This in turn results in fatigue.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia several years ago and have treated it with Alieve (2 in the am, and 2 in the pm) but the symptoms I have are definitely worsening. Is this to be expected?

Brief Answer:
No this is not expected with fibromyalgia.

Detailed Answer:
I am truly sorry for the difficulty you are having.

This progressive pain and weakness is not a common course for fibromyalgia with or without Chronic Fatigue Syndrome to take.

I don't know what type of work-up you had in the past that resulted in your being diagnosed with fibromyalgia, but there are other rheumatological problems that can look similar to it. So fibromyalgia is a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning that other things have been ruled out first. The worsening weakness should definitely be reconsidered.

At this point I would strongly advise you be reevaluated by a good rheumatologist.

If it is in fact fibromyalgia, you may benefit from some of the newer treatments for it, such as Lyrica.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification.
