Suggest Treatment For Musical Ear Syndrome

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Jun 2014
Question: I have had musical hallucinations nearly constantly now for a few months. Low melodies, bass or baritone , cannot understand words, the only thing that helps is background noise, TV or music. I feel like I am going "nuts". Is there anything I can do to be rid of this annoyance?

Brief Answer:
You can try antipsychotic or antiepileptics

Detailed Answer:
HI
Thanks for using healthcare magic. I, Dr Abhishek Kapoor, would help you in this query.

In musical ear syndrome, you can try medications such as antipsychotics like olanzapine, benzodiazepines or antiepileptics like lamotrigine etc. I have seen patients, who got relief with drugs like lamotrigine or low dose bendiazepine. You can also try prednisolone steroid or acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, Donepezil. These drugs are also effective in reducing the voices.

Other than treatment by medicinal means, individuals have also successfully alleviated musical hallucinations by cochlear implants, listening to different songs via an external source, or by attempting to block them through mental effort, depending on how severe their condition is.

Rest, respond varies from individual to individual. You can discuss with your physician about treatment plan. In case, you need further help, you can ask.
