Suggest Treatment For Nasal Congestion And Cough With Yellow Sputum
Question: Hello
49 yr old woman.
I have been waking with morning congestion- usually one nostril or another. As soon as Im up, i will feel drainage down the back of my throat. More in a hot shower. If I cough and spit out- it's a light yellow phlegm, but sometimes with streaks of bright red blood- which alarms me. (If i blow my nose, sometimes a little blood.). This only hapoens in the am. No coughing the rest of the day.
I was tested for allergies and have been told im allergic to dust amd mold. Also have mild LPR reflux. Very bad tonsillitus and sinus infectiom in January, but that has long resolved. This seems to be hapoenjng since then.
The blood concerns me. History if breast cancer-2000 & 2008; no nodes or mets. Family history of lung cancer- all smokers.
I have never smokec.
Seems though to be coming from throat and i have no other cough or incidents except early am.
Could you help me understand what this might be?

After reading your clinical history it appears that you are most probably having
chronic sinusitis allergic Post nasal discharge (PND). It result into light yellow phlegm sometimes with streaks of bright red blood . No need to concern too much .
If I were your treating doctor , I would advice
Do investigation like CT Scan Nose with sinuses to know extend of diseases .
Till then ,
Use Saline nasal rinse or spray thrice daily ,
Antihistaminic Tab Claritin (Loratadine 10mg) at night &
Tab ranitidine for mild LPR reflux .
You will get relief .
