Question: I have been experiencing some nausea and a dull ache in the stomach area. I notice more in the evening. This has been going on for about six weeks. Zantac seems to help but it hasn't gone away. It began taking a cholesterol medication in October.

Brief Answer:
You will need something stronger to protect the stomach.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

Thank you for using HCM to post your question.

It seems from your description that you might have a gastritis caused as a side effect from the cholesterol medicine. It may also come from other factors.

But the most important thing is the the treatment is the same.
Zantac (Ranitidine) is good, but not enough. I would recommend to use something that not only calms down the acid in the stomach, but that also it reduces irreversibly. You can look in the local pharmacy for Omeprazole 20mg, Pantoprazole 40mg, Lansoprazole 15 mg, ect. Any of those would work.
Take them once/day, before food.

Hope this is helpful.
