Suggest Treatment For Nausea And Dry-heave Post A Gastric Sleeve Surgery
In September I had gastric sleeve surgery. Now, I'm nauseous every morning, go through the saliva attack, but the dry heaves have turned into vomiting a bitter yellow liquid. I can control it with a Zofran pill, but that doesn't seem to be a long term solution.
Dumping syndrome
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your concerns.
In my opinion it is mostly likely due to Dumping syndrome which occurs after gastric sleeve surgery. But your symptoms before surgery suggests about gastric reflux. Both nausea and vomiting are common issues that gastric sleeve surgery patients face after the procedure has been performed. Nausea and vomiting are related to issues with the changes in your diet and dietary needs and the adjustment period which plays a vital role.
In rare instances, the nausea and vomiting may be the result of an ulcer that develops following surgery. If you notice frequent problems with nausea after you have undergone a gastric sleeve regardless if you abide by all dietary guidelines then you need to consult your treating doctor about this as I told you to rule out ulcer.
Dumping Syndrome: Another potential cause of nausea and vomiting is dumping syndrome. This is a condition that occurs in a number of bariatric surgery patients when food travels from the stomach to the small bowel faster that it should. Vomiting and nausea are potential symptoms of dumping syndrome, as is abdominal pain/cramps and diarrhea.
I will suggest you some tips to avoid nausea and vomitings:
1. When eating after bariatric surgery, be sure to avoid drinking while you eat.
2. Chew slowly and savor your food, and make sure you are eating foods that will not give your stomach problems during digestion.
3. Drink water between meals to stay hydrated, and be sure to stay away from carbonated beverages and beverages that are caffeinated.
4. Follow the diet instructions given by your doctor after surgery.
Don't worry, if you follow the above mentioned measures, most of the people will get rid of that nausea and vomiting eventually but if the symptoms persists you need to consult your treating doctor.
Hope this answers your query.
