Suggest Treatment For Neck Pain Caused By Anxiety In An Elderly Person

Question: I am a 50 year old woman, 5'4 about 140lbs. I have consistent neck and shoulder tension from stress and anxiety. I went dune buggy riding about two weeks ago with a heavy helmet and needless to say it was very physically jarring (and involved significant upper body effort to keep the buggy under control). I had no pain afterward but a week later (and after a round of exercising that involved about 50 pushups - not out of the realm of normal effort but I hadn't exercised in a few weeks - and a deep tissue massage) I have started having shooting pains from the right side of my neck up over my head once or twice a day. Sometimes it is followed by a headache, sometimes not. No radiating arm pain. Needless to say it has made me very anxious about an aneurysm or a cervical tumor since I tend to have health anxiety (so in your response, please try not to alarm me if possible). What is likely going on?
Brief Answer:
Take treatment as advised
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Most likely there is possibility of muscle spasm due to exertion and stress. Second possibility may be cervical radiculopathy due to disc.
It is less likely to be rupture of vertebral artery.
Is there any weakness in Upper or lower limbs, any sensory loss or urinary complains?
For releif you should take pain killers with muscle relaxant for 7-10 days. Apply local pain reliever ointment.
Avoid lifting heavy objects overhead.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
