Suggest Treatment For Numbness And Burning Sensation In The Thighs

Question: I have a burning sensation that was, at first, confined to the edges of a very numb area of my thigh that extended from groin to the outside of the knee. This conditition reached its apex over 2 weeks ago and remained in a holding pattern while I was flat on my back, confined to bed. I the last 48 hours, however, my skin, while the same pale color, hurts as if burned whenever, wherever, and however it is touch. This is no longer confined to the periphery of the numb area on top of right thigh.

Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I am dr.kakkar (dermatologist). I have gone through your query and I have noted your concern.

You seem to have meralgia paresthetica which is a neuropathy of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve.
The condition is due to entrapment of this nerve as it passes through the inguinal ligament. Symtoms include pain, numbness, pins and needle sensation.
I would suggest combination oral methycobalamin 750 to 1500 mcg and pregabalin 75 mg, twice daily for your symptoms.
It is a prescription drug and I would suggest that you talk to your GP for the needful.

I researched Meralgia PARESTHETICA online and took findings to my orthopedic surgeon. He said couldn't possibly be it. I think he's wrong....I have EVERY single symptom....

He says MP is only at the top of the thigh, i.e. where a toolbelt might rest, and that it couldn't go down the leg toward the knee.
He says it could be any number of back issues causing these symptoms. I have an MRI on the 20th and see doc on 27th.

Hi.

The distribution of your symptoms is very much in the distribution of LCFN (lateral cutaneous femoral nerve) which supplies mid anterior and lower thigh. Back issues usually cause pain in the back of leg/thigh, hamstring region and calf region rather than on the front of leg. Anyways i hope MRI and physical examination would give a more accurate picture.

All my research tells me that it IS the LCFN that is impinged upon and I have EVERY symptom of meralgia paresthetica.
I'm very curious to see what the MRI shows.
