Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
a small muscle on the right front of my thigh has atrophied and my right knee swells if I run or do lunges. My right hamstring also tends to tighten. The only trauma I can think of is that I banged my right knee on a table leg while seated. What s going on? Thanks.
You have wasting of the thigh muscles and recurrent knee swelling. This points to a knee problem. Since you are active in sports its possible that you have injured the knee some months before. This could be a ligament or menisceal injury inside the knee. This accounts for the swelling and muscle wasting. Please get you knee checked by a orthopedic specialist. An MRI will give confirmation of the diagnosis. Meanwhile, start strengthening exercises and stretching for hams Avoid strenuous sports till your condition is diagnosed.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. George Verghese, Orthopedic Surgeon
