Question: Dear Doctor,
- I'm 44 years old.
- I do have my own business.
- I'm a disabled person.

I have been suffering from this almost 10 years now.
This is what happens to me:
- When concentrating on something around me, I stuck with it, I just can't get rid of it. This puts me in a very embarrassing and dangerous situation.
For more clarification, let me give some examples of what is going on with me:
1) It was once happened to me that I thought about the papers who my work college was having in his hand, so I was staring at his papers on hand, I was curious to know what was there on his papers. From that time, whenever I see anyone holding papers in his/her hands I just stare at those papers, and couldn’t control this.
2) It was once happened to me that I met a pretty woman, I stared at her chest. From that time, whenever I see any woman, I just stare at her chest...
3) It was once happened to me that and I saw a bodybuilder person, I got amazed by his body and wanted to be like him, I saw his waist, I wanted to be like him. From that time, whenever I see someone I stare at his waist.
4) It was once happened to me that my work college accused me of being a terrorist, he was joking, but I took it seriously and felt very afraid. From that time whenever I hear the word "Terror or Terrorist" my heart beats very fast, and feel very afraid.

These behaviour takes less than seconds and it goes for few minutes and it gets back for another seconds ... and so on.

I don't know why this happens to me, and because of those things I quit my job and established my own small office, but unfortunately, I'm still suffering.
I would like to know what your diagnosed is. Is it a kind of mental, psychological disorder?
To tell you the truth, I'm facing serious problem because of this.

I would like to add that the first time I noticed this behavior was when I was at age 9 or 8 years old.
Also I would like to insure that I didn't experience any abuse in my childhood, as I'm disabled since my early childhood, everyone in my parents used to treat me very well.

Best Regards

Brief Answer:
Anxiety Disorder

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Welcome to Health Care Magic

I have read your query in detail and I can understand your concern. The symptoms like uncontrollable thoughts to stare on papers, on women breast or to stare men waist despite you are aware of that these thoughts are useless, still you are not able to control these thoughts. These thoughts produce significant distress in you and cause significant anxiety.

From available symptoms as per my opinion these symptoms guide us to diagnosis of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. OCD is a type of anxiety disorder in which abnormal, intrusive, purposeless, dominating thoughts occur in mind. The individuals know that these are useless still they fail to control the thoughts. As these are causing significant harm to your social and personal life I would advise you to consult a psychiatrist for expert opinion.

Treatment of OCD is there and have good response. Psychological treatment especially Behavior therapy like thought stop technique, progressive muscle relaxation exercises are very useful.

Medicines like SSRIs are used in high doses to get full effect. Fluoxetine, Fluvoxamine, Paroxetine etc have good results. The medicines are free of serious side effects and start showing response in about 6-8 weeks. For symptomatic control of anxiety medicines like Etizolam can be used. The medicine can prove useful in situations like you have described as you develop anxiety on hearing terror word. Consult a psychiatrist for treatment. The disease can be treated easily with medicines and Behavior therapy.

Thanks, hope this helps you. If you have more questions you can ask again.

Dear Dr. Seikhoo Bishnoi,
Many thanks for your answer.
I would like to let you know that the first time ever I experienced this was when I was at age 8 years old. Based on that, can this be Developmental Disorder like Autism?

Autism has different clinical presentation than you have described. It's not a developmental disorder.
