Explained, along with suggestions to help treat or prevent it

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Onychoschizia or onychoschisis is the splitting of the nail bed, mostly horizontally.

Causes include:

+Frequent wetting and drying of the nails (most common cause)
+Medical conditions resulting in the development of brittle nails that easily get damaged
+Trauma or injury
+Use of various chemicals or cosmetics
+Side effect of medications
+Various skin conditions
+Nutritional deficiencies

Suggestions:

+Oral biotin supplements
+Avoid wetting and drying your hands frequently
+Avoid the use of cosmetics and/or chemicals on the region
+Be more careful and even use protective gloves if required to prevent injuries
+Nail hardening soluttions (e.g. formaldehyde)
+Keep yourself well hydrated
+Use moisturizers on the region
+Soak your nails in water at least 2-3 times a day for about 10 minutes each time

I hope you find my response both helpful and informative. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
