Suggest Treatment For Open Sore On Stomach

Question: I noticed an open sore on my stomach today with redness around it. I have lost weight and this is in an area that is covered with loose skin. What could be the cause of this and do you recommend a Dr visit? I visited a Dr in July thinking I had a yeast infection but the test came back negative for yeast and bacteria. But. . .I have intense itching and a slight discharge that is odorless but is in the folds of the vulva and vagina. Could these be nits and could that cause that sore?

Sore Could be folliculitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

The sore that has appeared over the stomach could be folliculitis, infection of hair follicle. If you upload a photo of the sore I will be better able to help.

Folliculitis will be painful, red due to associated inflammation. I prescribe Antibiotic like Clindamycin capsule along with anti inflammatory tablet to my patients with similar complaints. I also apply povidone iodine Ointment over the area and cover it with dressing.

It has nothing to do with the vulvovaginal lesion.

Please keep the area clean. You should consult a Dermatologist and rule out Tinea (a type of fungus) infection.
