Question: I have been diagnosed with Oral Lichen Planus (hideous disorder). I have taken Triamterene for Meniere's Disease for many years. The Pathology Prof at the Dental College wants me off the Triamterene. What do you suggest as an alternative? I am female, 77 yrs old. YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
Torasemide is an alternative medicine but check with your physician first

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

You may take Torasemide as an alternative to your medicine. Triamterene is thiazide drug which provokes lichen planus. Torasemide is a good alternative drug for that. Still, it's always advisable to consult your physician before changing your medicine.

As far as lichen planus is concerned, you may take steroids to suppress that but at the same time, it compromises the immune system, so it should always be taken in tapering dosage under proper medical supervision.

Try to change medicine to prevent further progression of this. Moreover, PUVA is the latest technology to improve the skin texture.

Please consult your physician before changing medicine.
Hope I answered your query, any further queries are always welcome.

Wishing you good health

Kind regards
Dr. Neha Sumra
