Suggest Treatment For Osteoarthritis In An Obese Person

Question: I had x-rays last year that showed bone on bone in both my knees I am overweight. I try to make an appointment with a very renowned orthopedic surgeon from XXXXXXX Connecticut. I waited for 4 months to get an appointment, the nurse called me back and ask for some information and I told her of my weight and height and she said sorry we do not see people with that BMI. I absolutely do not want surgery being heavy but I would like to know what to do I'm trying to lose weight can't seem to move and I am looking for some exercises 4 - even though there bone on bone I would like some kind of help. I certainly want to lose weight before I would consider having surgery on my knees. I'm in the process now of looking for an orthopedic surgeon that will at least see me and discuss my future plans and maybe I'm a candidate for injections to help with the pain in the meantime. I also have RA and I have gotten it under control by using natural supplements as opposed to biologics. I am thrilled with the results. Just advise please I so appreciate it

Brief Answer:
Due to osteoarthritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Bone on bone in both the knees is due to osteoarthritis.
The treatment options include pain killers, hot fomentation, lubricating agents like glucosamine sulfate, chondroitin , dycerin, etc and some life style modifications and physiotherapy.
Right now you can start taking Tablet Tylenol ( Acetaminophen) Double Strength after breakfast and after dinner. It is suggested to add calcium supplements 500mg each twice daily. This will take care of your mild symptoms in 3-5 days.
You can start with walking and aerobic fitness exercises, quadriceps strengthening, patellar tapping, lateral heel wedges, etc- under the guidance of your physiotherapist.
A Big No to Stair case, squatting postures, any chair which has a sitting platform lower than your knees.
Knee brace can also be used for an earlier and prolonged relief.
In severe cases intra articular injections of steroids and hyaluronic acid may be needed after consultation with your orthopaedician.
Losing a few ponds will definitely help in reducing the pain. You can start with dietary restrictions and regular exercise like aerobics.
I hope this answers your query.

Thank you. I am trying now to lose weight. It seems I do not get relief out of Tylenol. I have a pain killer that I try not to use what is oxycodone with Tylenol. What is hot fomentation? Doctor, is it a practice for different practices not to even see a patient? I will not have surgery until I lose weight to facilitate my healing. But it would be nice if someone would just meet with me. I live in Windsor Connecticut and I am looking for the best of the best unfortunately, the best refused to see me after waiting for several months. I so appreciate your help and again please remind me what kind of Lisle exercise can I do for my knees. I also do take up chondroitin with MSN I find some of the supplements that help with osteoarthritis can salt, and I try so hard to avoid that any recommendations as to supplement such as flexi cell. Thank you so much for your help

Brief Answer:
Hot compress thrice a day will help a lot.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
You can use oxycodone with tylenol as and when needed. Hot fomentation means a hot compress. You can consult your nearest orthopedician instead of looking for the best one. He will at least give you proper prescription medicines and supplements in proper doses. It is best to do the knee exercises under the guidance of a physiotherapist. Doing these on your own can cause a stress on the knees if overdone thus increasing the pain.
Hope my answer is helpful.
