Suggest Treatment For Pain Along Spine

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Feb 2015
Question: I just went back to teaching full time and by the end of the day my back on either side of my spine hurts really bad. It also hurts when I stand for any amount of time when I am at home. Sometimes it is sharp pains or burning pain. I've used the heating pad with some relief. I can't tell if it's muscular or not. I start out the fine but as the day goes on it just continues to get worse. I am wearing comfortable/sensible shoes.

Brief Answer:
Muscle pain likely due to standing.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
You are suffering from postural back pain. The first step is to ensure that you avoid standing continuously for long hours and maintain an appropriate posture while sitting. Take frequent stretch breaks and drink lots of water. Discontinue using pillow while sleeping straight. Do not lift heavy objects, especially after bending down. Eat a healthy wholesome meal which should satisfy your minerals and proteins requirement.

The most essential and long lasting remedy is exercises. There are certain back strengthening and isometric exercises that you must learn from a physiotherapist and perform them at home or work whenever possible. You can also undergo a weeks session of traction at your physiotherapist's clinic.

Last but not least, if its unbearable take medications or muscle relaxant prescribed by your physician. And if it has been long standing illness visit your orthopaedician and clinically-radiologically establish a diagnosis to commence definitive treatment.

I hope this answers your query.
