Question: I am a 70 year old female that is sexually active. I have had a hysterectomy in my early 20's for cervical ca. My guess HPV but who knew back then. I suddenly have been having extreme pain with intercourse and bleeding. Went to ob-gym PA did some vaginal testing and I was told I have HPV. I thought this this is a young person's disease.

Brief Answer:
Some more information is needed

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

HPV is a viral infection. Though it usually infects upto the age of 30 years, it can affect any sexually active person. Moreover, once infected tissue remains infected. I believe when your cervical ca was diagnosed, during the hysterectomy cervix also was removed. Please endorse this statement.

This virus is carcinogenic. Now that you have been diagnosed to have HPV, please get the vaginal smear examined for any evidence of ca, which most likely is going to be negative. Then in such case, nothing need be done. However, HPV may infect anus and cause cancer.

Since you had vaginal bleeding and pain during intercourse, thorough examination and check up is mandatory to find out the site of bleeding. Will you please upload me the clinical findings of your Gynaecologist and also the reports of vaginal testing?

Where was the pain? Was it in the abdomen or was it in the vagina? Vaginal pain could be due to atrophic vagina. Such vagina is likely to get traumatize and cause bleeding. If you use water-based lubricants like vaginal jellies, intercourse may be much comfortable and easy.

Would you please write full form of RN?

Please furnish me with the required information for further advice.
