Question: This regarding my "R" hand. Approx. 2-3 yrs. ago my chiropractor told me I had DeQuervains Syndrome. I iced it and tried not to do too much with it. Finally it was too painful so I went to Dr. D. Guo, he poceeded to give me shots in that area until they were to unbearable. My son suggested a hand specialist. When I told Dr. Guo's nurse he was in the room shortly and said, "so you want to have surgery." Of course he referred to one of his associates. Dr. Schmidt didn't call for 2 mos. later and we scheduled the surgery for July 2, 2014. After 2 weeks I started occupation therapy, all went well until my cortisone shots started to wear off at the end of Aug. I called Dr. Schmidt to explain the pain and his nurse returned my call to say that he would see me for my appt. on Sept. 29. When I got to his office I told him my thumb, index and middle finger really hurt. He told me I had a trigger finger in the middle finger and gave me a cortione shot, I begged him to give me one in my thumb too as it really hurt to which he haphazardly did so. Then he proceeded to yell at me and say that I had arthritis and there was nothing anyone could do for it and I had to just learn to live with it. I felt really demeaned and angry. Since Dr. Guo has given me 2 cortisone shots for pain and today 12-11-14 I went back because my thumb and index finger really hurt for well over 6 weeks. I said I had trigger finger in my thumb and index finger, but he will only give 2 cortisone at a visit. WHY? He charges my insurance $1,500 for 2 shots. Now I have to go back next week for shots in my index finger. He won't give me anything pain except 1 vicotin 5-325 TB and it doesn't do a thing. Do doctors even care about their patients pain anymore or has all the drug seeking people ruined it for everyone? I haven't been able to hardly do anything since July 2.

Brief Answer:
Do you have pain and swelling in any other joints

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks or posting

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. I feel bad for you, the suffering you are going through. It has become a little bit complicated.

To help you better please tell me, do you have pain and swelling in any other joint?

I have few suggestions and hope will help-
1. You may visit physiotherapist, he will help by exercises, wax bath and splint.
2. A visit to pain clinic (specialist) will be of great help.
Above all please do not lose hope and be a fighter (positive attitude).
3. Hot water fomentation along with tablet tendocare (collagen peptide, hyaluronic acid) will help. Your local pharmacist might know about it.

Looking forward to your reply

Regards

I have osteoarthritis also in my left thumb but not as bad. I've had two rotator cuff surgeries with shortening of the collar bone and acromion bone cut. So, now I have soft tissue pain in my left shoulder region and I also have bone spurs on my neck. I'm not positive of the location but something like C-3, 4, 5. I use a tens unit for my shoulder pain which works o.k. I also have some pain in my "R" knee for which I bought glucosamine chondroitin and it seems to be helping. My hand is the big problem.

I've never heard of tendocare, collagen peptide or hyaluronic acid. Do I need a Dr. prescription for this.

The cortisone shot I got yesterday was for a trigger finger.

Brief Answer:
Do regular exercises

Detailed Answer:
Hello
It's good to see you
I have gone through your reply carefully and you may continue with TENS therapy for shoulder and add regular exercises for the knee and shoulder.
The tablet tendocare helps in relief of pain caused by tendinitis. Your local doctor/Pharmacist might know about it, they may be having same product with different brand name.
Hope this helps.
