General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Cortisone injections have been known to trigger headaches in some people, although migraines specifically are less commonly reported. The exact mechanism behind this is not fully understood, but it is thought to be related to the body's stress response to the injection. In some cases, the injection itself can also cause pain and discomfort that may contribute to the development of a headache or migraine.
If you have a history of migraines or headaches, it may be worth discussing this with your healthcare provider before getting a cortisone injection. They may be able to provide additional guidance or precautions to help minimize the risk of headache or migraine onset. Additionally, if your headache persists or becomes severe, you should contact your healthcare provider for further evaluation.
If you require a personalized response, kindly use the Ask A Doctor service and post a follow-up. Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
