Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling In The Right Calf Muscle While On Tylenol

default
Posted on Tue, 15 Nov 2016
Question: While playing softball last night, I went to run and heard a pop and felt a pop in my right calf muscle. I cannot point my toes up and I have pain and swelling. I am icing the calf and taking Tylenol, but not really working. I am on heart medication so my pain medication is limited.

Brief Answer:
Please go in for treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

It sounds like you ruptured a tendon. This needs to be examined and you will likely need a splint or cast. Depending on the degree of rupture, which can be assessed with examination (and possibly imaging studies), you may need referral to orthopedics for possible surgery.

I can understand that the Tylenol is not working adequately. When you go in to be evaluated, which I recommend you do now, they will likely give you narcotic based medication, such as Tylenol with codeine or something stronger.

But it is time to go in for this to be evaluated. I recommend an ER, but if that is not possible, an urgent care clinic.
Note: For further queries, consult a joint and bone specialist, an Orthopaedic surgeon. Book a Call now.
