Suggest Treatment For Pain In Left Rib Cage

default
Posted on Wed, 29 Apr 2015
Question: I've been having pain in my left rib cage for about 1.5 week now. I'm not sure where it came from. Last night, while playing around a bit the pain got a bit worst and I began to have a burning sensation going throughout most of my rib cage. In a way, it almost feels swollen. Pain is also sometimes below rib cage. Most of the pain is on the bottom half of the rib cage. Have had some back pain and lower left back pain. Tried and Icy/hot patch to relieve pain but no go.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to muscle sprain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in the left side of rib cage can be due to a muscle sprain or a microscopic tear. The associated back pain is also suggestive of a muscle sprain. The burning sensation in the area can be related to a mild nerve root irritation at the level of spine.
Alternate Hot water bottle or Ice pack can help to relieve most of such pains by reducing inflammation.
The first step is to ensure that you maintain an appropriate posture while working on the computer. Take frequent stretch breaks and drink lots of water. Discontinue using pillow while sleeping straight. Do not lift heavy objects, especially after bending down. Eat a healthy wholesome meal which should satisfy your minerals and proteins requirement.

The most essential and long lasting remedy is exercises. There are certain back strengthening and isometric exercises that you must learn from a physiotherapist and perform them at home or work whenever possible.

Last but not least, if its unbearable take medications or muscle relaxant prescribed by your physician. And if it has been long standing illness visit your orthopaedician and clinically-radiologically establish a diagnosis to commence definitive treatment.
I hope this answers your query.
