Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Ear While Having Vertigo

default
Posted on Wed, 4 Jan 2017
Question: I am having vertigo (4 months), and now I'm noticing a pain in my inner ear but only at night. During the day, if I clench my jaw, I can feel the pain. How would a doctor know whether this was an infection or not? I don't have any fever or drainage.

Brief Answer:
Most likely referred pain to the ear.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. The pain in the ear is most likely to be a referred pain from the jaw if the ear is normal on examination. An ENT specialist can confirm this by examining the ear drum and hearing tests.

2. Get a dental opinion. Dental infections need to be ruled out.

3. An anti-inflammatory painkiller and heat fomentation should be tried before any other treatment.

4. A dental splint or guard helps relax the jaw and ease the pain.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
